Everyday care
- Vacuum regularly on low suction. Avoid rotating beater bars or stiff brushes, which can pull at the surface.
- Rotate the rug approximately every six months so light and foot traffic affect it more evenly.
- Use a suitable rug pad on hard flooring to reduce movement and wear.
- Keep the rug away from persistent moisture and prolonged, intense direct sunlight.
Spills and stains
- Act promptly. Blot the spill with a clean, white, absorbent cloth; do not rub.
- Work from the outside of the affected area toward the centre to avoid spreading the mark.
- Do not saturate the rug or use bleach, harsh detergent, solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- For a persistent or unfamiliar stain, stop and consult a professional rug cleaner.
Professional cleaning
Professional rug cleaning is recommended when a deeper clean is needed. Tell the cleaner the rug’s fibre content and construction, which are listed in its technical sheet. Do not machine wash, tumble dry or dry clean unless Shop Seif has confirmed that method for the specific piece.
Shedding and handmade character
Some wool rugs may shed lightly at first, and this normally reduces with regular, gentle vacuuming. Small variations in colour, outline, pile or dimensions are a natural result of hand production rather than a defect.
Storage
- Make sure the rug is completely clean and dry before storing it.
- Roll it rather than folding it, then protect it with a breathable covering.
- Store it horizontally in a dry, ventilated place away from direct heat or moisture.
